Oldcastle Presents New Play Reading at VAEAugust 4, 2012NORTH BENNINGTON - The Oldcastle Theatre Company, at home Bennington, will present a play reading of a new play by Philip Lance at the Vermont Arts Exchange on Aug. 6, at 7:30 p.m. The reading is free and open to the public. A discussion with the playwright will follow. Lance's play concerns three couples and a tri-city law firm deeply entrenched in Albany politics. Each of the couples is facing transitions in their lives. Colin is soon to be given a judgeship. His loyal clerk's wife is leaving for graduate school and a young lawyer in the firm is angling for a partnership while his wife, unbeknownst to him, accepts a new job. Loyalty, marital fidelity, inherited wealth, power, politics and sixties rock 'n' roll are all explored in this multi-layered, often funny contemporary drama. The playwright, Lance, joined Oldcastle in 1977 and has made more than 30 acting appearances with the company. Lance is also an attorney. The reading will be directed by Oldcastle producing artistic director Eric Peterson, and cast members include Nan Mullenneaux, Richard Howe, Yvonne Perry, David Baecker and Meredith McCaslind.
